Sea Lions at Pier 39

The Sea Lions started to appear on the docks at Pier 30 in 1989 after the San Francisco Loma Prieta earthquake. They started arriving in droves and took over K-Dock in January 1990. At first they numbered from 10 to 50 then the population soon grew to more than 300 within a couple of months. In November 2009, a record of number of sea lions (1,701 to be exact) were counted on K-Dock. They are so amazing to watch. Bidou & I stayed for 1/2 hour just checking them out!!
Many people come out to Pier 39 just to admire the Sea Lions!
Sea Lions are social animals who love to sun bath and sleep in closed quarters.
